Gogo’s Beach Trips 2023
The golden glow of the sun, fresh scent of the water and gentle breeze of the ocean can only mean one thing: PADCA’s annual Gogo’s Beach trip. This year the Community Services team went bigger and better, we opened the invitation to Sunnyside Park Home as well and ten of their residents were able to join in. The Gogos emerged from all our rural social clubs and we had a combined total of 150 seniors. Funds sourced from our Social Work fundraising accounts, a generous donation from a Woodgrove Village resident and small contributions from our Gogos culminated in three idyllic days at Durban’s beautiful beachfront.
Maharaj’s coaches safely transported the three groups on 15th, 21st and 22nd November 2023 to the destination. Collectively, they shared that they enjoyed the stretches of golden sand, never-ending piers and warm waters of the Indian Ocean, which left them feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. Some of the Gogos who sat on the grass sharing their sandwiches, snacks and fruit, chatting and enjoying each other’s company, recalled feeling young and carefree again. They shared that their worries and woes subsided as they embraced all the opportunities of the day.
PADCA promotes and advocates for active aging. Active ageing is the process of maximizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance the quality of life as people age. These beach trips foster the active ageing process. Simple acts of swimming in the ocean, playing in the sand and collecting sea pebbles stimulates the mind, provides new perspectives and contributes to the overall well-being of these Gogos.
